Uganda Safari Holidays: Plan Your 2026 & 2027 Trip

Tailor-made Uganda safari holidays for couples, families, solo travellers and groups — planned around your dates by a Kampala-based team.

A good Uganda safari holiday balances adventure with ease. You might trek gorillas at dawn and be back at a lodge with a view of the forest by lunch, or drive through open savannah in the morning and cruise a river in the afternoon. Uganda offers a wider range of experiences than most safari countries — primates, big game, birds, waterfalls, mountains and rich local culture — and they sit close enough together to combine in a single holiday.

This page helps you plan from the start: what kinds of holiday are possible, how to match one to your travelling party, when to go and what to expect. It is a companion to our overview of Uganda safari packages and our guide to Uganda safari vacations. When you have a rough idea, tell us your dates and we will build the holiday.

Uganda Safari Holidays Month by Month

Uganda sits on the equator, so temperatures vary little through the year; what changes is rainfall. The main seasons are:

  • December to February: a drier, popular period with good wildlife viewing and comfortable trails.
  • March to May: the long rains — green and quiet, with muddier forest trails and good value.
  • June to August: the main dry season, with excellent trekking conditions and higher demand.
  • September to November: shorter rains, lush scenery and strong birdlife.

Our dedicated best time to visit Uganda guide goes into more detail. For 2026 and 2027 departures, book gorilla permits early for June to August and December to February.

How Long Should a Uganda Safari Holiday Be?

A holiday of seven to ten days works well for most first visits: it allows a gorilla trek, a savannah park and a river cruise without constant driving. Shorter trips need a tighter route, and longer holidays open the door to chimpanzees, Kidepo and rest days. Use our guide to package lengths and the examples on itinerary ideas.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Safari days start early because animals are most active in the cool of the morning. A typical day includes a morning activity such as a game drive or trek, a late breakfast or lunch back at the lodge, a rest through the hottest hours and a second activity in the late afternoon, then dinner and an early night. Lodges are friendly and informal, and your driver-guide plans the rhythm of each day around the wildlife and your energy.
