Uganda Safari Packages by Length: 3, 5, 8, 10 & 14+ Days

What you can realistically see in each length of Uganda safari, with itinerary examples for every duration.

The right length for a Uganda safari depends on distance and priorities. Uganda is compact for East Africa, yet the parks are spread across the country and the roads between them take time, so each extra day buys either more depth in one place or an extra region. This guide shows what fits into each duration.

It is part of our overview of Uganda safari packages; to see every itinerary at once, use the Uganda safaris and tours by duration hub.

At a glance

  • 3 days: one highlight: gorillas, chimpanzees, Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth
  • 4 to 5 days: a highlight plus a second region, or gorillas and chimpanzees together
  • 7 to 8 days: gorillas plus savannah wildlife, the most popular first-visit length
  • 10 to 16 days: three or more regions at a relaxed pace, with birding or Kidepo
  • 21 days: the full country, including remote parks and rest days
By duration

3-Day Uganda Safari Packages

Three days is the minimum for a meaningful safari and works well when you are combining Uganda with another destination or have limited time. Pick one highlight:

Expect a lot of travelling for the time available; flying can help (see fly-in packages).

4 to 5-Day Packages

Four or five days lets you add a second experience. The 5-day primate safari pairs gorillas with chimpanzees; the 5-day gorilla and wildlife safari pairs gorillas with game viewing. The 4-day Kidepo safari is a remote-wilderness option, best reached by air.

7 to 8-Day Packages

A week is the sweet spot for a first visit: enough time for Bwindi, a savannah park and the Nile without feeling rushed. The 8-day ultimate Uganda safari is our standard answer to "I have about a week".

10 to 16-Day Packages

From ten days you can slow down and add depth: chimpanzees as well as gorillas, a longer stay at Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls and, with a little more time, Kidepo. The 10-day birding safari, the 12-day magical Uganda safari and the 16-day Big Five and primates safari show how that time can be used.

21-Day Packages

Three weeks covers the whole country at an unhurried pace, with rest days, cultural visits and adventure activities. See the 21-day Uganda Mother Nature wilderness safari, and pair it with ideas from our itinerary ideas page.

How Travel Time Affects Your Plan

Roads in Uganda are improving, but journeys to the south-west (Bwindi) and the north (Murchison, Kidepo) still take much of a day by road. If you have fewer than seven days, build the plan around the shortest route between your must-see places or consider flying. We will tell you honestly where a plan is too tight.
