Uganda Fly-In Safari Packages

Replace long drives with short domestic flights between Entebbe and Uganda's parks, and spend your time with the wildlife.

A fly-in safari uses small aircraft to connect Entebbe or Kajjansi with airstrips near the national parks. What would be a full day on the road becomes a short flight with views of the landscape, which adds hours to your time in the parks. It is the most efficient way to see Uganda's distant regions on a short trip.

Fly-in packages are a variation of our standard Uganda safari packages, not a separate product: we take an itinerary you like and replace the longest road legs with flights.

At a glance

  • Typical routes: Entebbe or Kajjansi to airstrips serving Bwindi, Murchison Falls, Kidepo and Queen Elizabeth
  • Time saved: a full day of driving per leg on the longest routes
  • Luggage: soft bags and a weight limit apply on small aircraft
  • Best for: short trips, luxury travellers, honeymooners, Kidepo
The details

How a Fly-In Safari Works

You still start and end in Entebbe. Instead of driving to Bwindi, for instance, you fly to a nearby airstrip, are met by a driver-guide and transferred to your lodge. Between parks you can fly again or combine one flight with one scenic drive, so you still see the countryside. Scheduled and charter options exist, and availability changes by season, so we confirm flights as part of the quote.

Who It Suits

  • Short itineraries. If you have three to five days, flying makes distant parks possible, such as combining gorillas with Murchison Falls.
  • Kidepo Valley. The park is so far from Kampala that flying is the sensible way for most visitors. See the 4-day Kidepo safari.
  • Luxury and honeymoon travellers. Fly-ins pair well with high-end lodges; see honeymoon safaris and safari holidays for couples.
  • Anyone who dislikes long drives, including older travellers and some families.

Trade-Offs to Know

Flights cost more than road transfers, and you give up the chance to see small towns, markets and landscapes from the car. Luggage limits are strict, usually around 15 kg in a soft bag, so pack light. Weather can delay light aircraft, so we avoid scheduling flights on the last day before an international departure.

Sample Fly-In Combinations

  • Gorillas and Murchison Falls in four days: fly Entebbe to the Bwindi airstrip, trek, fly back, then fly or drive to Murchison.
  • Kidepo and gorillas in a week: fly to Kidepo, return to Entebbe, then fly to the south-west.
  • Mixed road and air: drive one way for scenery and fly the return leg, balancing cost and time.

Compare with our standard routes on packages by length.
