Uganda Wildlife Safari Packages

Game drives, boat cruises and guided walks across Uganda's savannah parks, with itineraries from 3 to 21 days.

Uganda's wildlife safaris are less crowded and more varied than most travellers expect. Within a few days you can drive past elephants on the Nile, watch hippos from a boat on the Kazinga Channel, look for lions in the trees at Ishasha and walk with rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The parks differ in character, so the right package depends on what you want to see.

This page covers our wildlife-focused itineraries. If gorillas are your first priority, see gorilla safari packages; for the full range, visit Uganda safari packages.

At a glance

  • Queen Elizabeth: Kazinga Channel boat cruise, savannah game drives, tree-climbing lions in Ishasha
  • Murchison Falls: Nile boat cruise to the falls, game drives, giraffes and elephants
  • Kidepo Valley: remote northern wilderness with far fewer visitors
  • Lake Mburo: zebras, impala and walking and boat safaris close to Kampala
  • Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary: walk to see rhinos on foot
Parks and routes

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Uganda's most popular wildlife park combines open savannah, crater lakes and the Kazinga Channel, where boat cruises bring you alongside hippos, buffalo and elephants coming to drink. In the southern Ishasha sector, lions climb fig trees to rest. See the 3-day Queen Elizabeth safari.

Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda's largest park is split by the Nile, which squeezes through a narrow gap to create the thundering Murchison Falls. Boat cruises run towards the base of the falls and the north bank is the best area for game drives, with elephants, giraffes, buffalo and lions. See the 3-day Murchison Falls safari.

Kidepo Valley National Park

In the far north-east, Kidepo's wide valleys and mountain backdrop feel genuinely remote. Visitor numbers are low and the wildlife includes species rarely seen elsewhere in Uganda. Most guests fly in. See the 4-day Kidepo safari and fly-in options.

Lake Mburo and Ziwa

Lake Mburo is the easiest park to add on the way to or from the south-west, with zebras, impala and the option of walking, horse-riding or boat safaris. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, on the road to Murchison Falls, is the place to track rhinos on foot.

The Big Five in Uganda

All five of the Big Five can be seen in Uganda on a longer trip: lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo in the savannah parks, and rhino at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where they were reintroduced. Our Big Five safaris page and the 16-day Big Five itinerary explain how.

Choosing Between the Parks

Most visitors combine Queen Elizabeth with Bwindi because they sit on the same route, and add Murchison Falls for a different landscape. With ten days or more, Kidepo transforms the trip. We will recommend a route once we know your dates, and you can browse more ideas in our 8 best safari experiences article.

UWA fees

What Park Fees Add to a Wildlife Safari

Wildlife safaris combine entrance ($35 to $45 per day for foreign non-residents), game drives, launch cruises ($30) and optional activities. See entrance fees and the tariff guide.
