Restricted Areas for Tourists in Uganda: Park Zones, Permits and Common Sense
Most of Uganda is open to visitors, but some park zones and sensitive sites need permits, guides or permission.
Tourists can visit most of Uganda freely, but there are rules. In national parks some activities and zones need a permit and a ranger, and some places such as military or border areas should not be photographed or entered without permission.
This is general guidance. Your operator and guide will confirm current rules for your route. Start with park rules and fines and is Uganda safe for tourists?.

Permit-Only Activities and Zones
Mountain gorilla and chimpanzee tracking, habituation experiences and some hikes can only be done with a UWA permit and ranger. Mountain climbs and volcano hikes need a guide. See gorilla permits explained and the UWA tariff guide.

Sensitive Sites and Borders
Avoid photographing military installations, airport security areas and government buildings. Border areas can have extra checks, so carry your passport and ask your operator about any route near a border. See entry requirements.
How to Stay on the Right Side of the Rules
Travel with a licensed operator, listen to your guide, and ask before photographing or entering unfamiliar areas.
