Uganda E-Visa & Entry Requirements
How to get a visa for Uganda and what to carry when you arrive.
Most visitors to Uganda need a visa, and the usual route is the online e-visa system, which lets you apply and pay before you travel. This page explains the process and the other documents to carry. Entry rules change, so always check the latest requirements for your nationality with the official Uganda immigration service before you book.
This page is part of our Uganda travel guide. See also Uganda safari travel documents.
Documents to Carry
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with blank pages.
- Visa: an e-visa or a visa obtained through the route that applies to you.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate. Keep the original with your passport.
- Return or onward ticket and details of your accommodation.
- Travel insurance covering medical care and cancellation.
How the E-Visa Works
- Apply through the official government portal, not through third-party sites that charge extra.
- Upload the documents requested and pay the fee.
- Wait for approval, which usually takes a few working days; do not leave it to the last minute.
- Print the approval and carry it with your passport.
We can guide you through the application when you book with us.
Visiting More Than One Country
The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for multiple entries within its validity, which can help on a multi-country route. Rules and eligibility change, so check before you travel. See Uganda and Rwanda and Uganda and Kenya.

How to Apply
Most visitors apply for a Ugandan visa online through the official government e-visa portal before travelling. Use only the official site, as look-alike websites exist. You will normally need a passport valid for at least six months, a passport-style photo, travel details and accommodation information. Apply early in case processing takes longer than expected, and print your approval to carry with you.
East Africa Tourist Visa and Border Crossings
A multi-country tourist visa for some East African states has been offered in the past, which can be useful for combining Uganda with Kenya or Rwanda. Rules change, so confirm the current position. If you are combining countries, read Uganda and Rwanda and Uganda and Kenya.
