Tanzania Northern vs Southern Circuit: Which Safari Route Should You Choose?

The north is famous and reliable, the south is wild and quiet, and each suits a different traveller.

The northern circuit includes the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara. It has the migration, the highest wildlife density and the best infrastructure, but also more vehicles at key sightings.

The southern circuit centres on Ruaha and Nyerere, with fewer visitors, walking safaris and boat trips. It is reached by light aircraft. See the southern parks guide and Serengeti regions.

This guide is part of our East Africa travel guides. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Ameera Africa Safaris Uganda tours homepage.
