Rushaga Sector, Bwindi: Gorilla Trekking, Groups and Lodges

Rushaga is the southern sector with the largest number of habituated gorilla groups.

Rushaga offers the widest choice of groups and is the main sector for the gorilla habituation experience; see gorilla habituation. Gorilla families habituated here have included Nshongi, Mishaya and Kahungye; group names and availability change over time.

Your gorilla permit is issued for a specific sector, so choose lodging nearby. See all Bwindi sectors and Bwindi lodges.

Notes

What Makes Rushaga Different

Rushaga has more habituated groups than any other sector, which makes permits easier to find in busy months. It is also the main base for the gorilla habituation experience, where small groups spend extended time with a family still learning to accept people. The sector is reached from Kabale or Kisoro by rural road; see the Rushaga to Nyabaremura walk.

Access

Getting There

See the Buhoma route and the Rushaga and Nkuringo route for road times, or fly to a nearby airstrip; see fly-in safaris.
