Kenya Entry Requirements, Money and Practical Information for Visitors

The practical details for arriving, paying and getting around in Kenya.

Kenya has moved from conventional visas to an electronic travel authorisation for many visitors, which is applied for online before departure. Rules change, so check the official government site before you book flights, and carry a passport valid for at least six months.

The currency is the Kenyan shilling. Cards are widely accepted in cities and lodges, and mobile money is used throughout the country. Tipping is customary on safari for drivers, guides and camp staff, and a small amount is appreciated in restaurants.

Transport

Getting Around

Safari vehicles with a driver-guide are standard, and small aircraft connect the Mara and other parks. Nairobi traffic is heavy, so plan generous transfer times on arrival and departure days.

Money and Connectivity
