Kilimanjaro Routes Compared: Machame, Lemosho, Marangu, Rongai and Northern Circuit
The route you pick shapes your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak far more than your fitness alone.
Kilimanjaro has several established routes. Machame is the most popular, with varied scenery and six to seven days. Lemosho is quieter and offers better acclimatisation. Marangu is the only hut-based route. Rongai approaches from the north and is drier. The Northern Circuit is the longest and has the best acclimatisation profile.
More days on the mountain means better acclimatisation, so longer itineraries tend to have higher summit success. See the Kilimanjaro climbing guide for general preparation.

Success and Safety
Take time, hydrate and listen to guides. Summit night is cold and long. Fitness helps, but acclimatisation matters most. See altitude sickness advice.
