Chimps and Forest Walks
Kaniyo Pabidi is a forest in the southern part of Murchison Falls National Park, about an hour from Paraa. It offers chimpanzee tracking, guided walks and birding in mahogany and ironwood trees. The chimpanzee community here is habituated, and groups are small, so the experience feels private.
Walks may reveal black-and-white colobus, blue monkeys, elephants and birds such as the Puvel's illadopsis and the chocolate-backed kingfisher.
Planning a Visit
Tracking starts early in the morning, and you will need sturdy shoes, long trousers, insect repellent and a rain jacket. Sightings are not guaranteed, but guides know the forest well. Many guests stay at the nearby camp to avoid long morning drives.
Combine the forest with a boat cruise to the falls and game drives in the northern savannah. See Murchison Falls National Park and the Buligi circuit for more.
