Busoga Region of Uganda: Jinja, Iganga, Bugiri, Kamuli and Mayuge

The heartland of the Nile's source, between Lake Victoria and Lake Kyoga.

Busoga is the region of eastern Uganda between Lake Victoria in the south and Lake Kyoga in the north, east of the Victoria Nile. Jinja is its tourism hub; other districts include Iganga, Bugiri, Kamuli and Mayuge. The Basoga speak Lusoga, and the Busoga kingdom is led by a cultural head, the Kyabazinga.

Most visitors see Busoga through Jinja, with rafting, bungee jumping and the source of the Nile; see Jinja and white-water rafting. Other districts are mostly rural, with sugarcane, farms and lakeshore villages.

This guide is part of our Uganda districts and towns guide. When you are ready to plan, see our Uganda safari packages or the Uganda safari vacations.
